Our Mission Statement:
Roman and Martin opened The Red Hydrant in 2005 with unparalleled grooming and an exceptional customer service experience as its goal.
Eight years later, we had outgrown our original location and expanded to a new state of the art facility encompassing 4700 square feet. This location not only allowed for the expansion of groom stations, but also allowed for expansion of additional services as well. The Red Hydrant Boutique for example. The Boutique offers unique gifts and decor for your four-legged friends as well as your two-legged friends. We carry organic treats, shampoos, toys and many other items for your furry friends and unique and one-of-a-kind gifts for you friends and family. Whether you’re searching for a sympathy card, new decor for your home, whimsical dish towels, or dishes for your next Taco Party, we have what you’re looking for and items you didn’t know you wanted but now need!
This location also allowed us to offer Indoor Doggie Daycare. This is an unprecedented service and one that is still unique to The Red Hydrant. At the Red Hydrant, dogs play in a supervised indoor facility with a full-time trained Play Coach. Dog owners don’t have to worry about rainy days, mud, fleas, ticks, pollen or excessive heat. No other day care in the area offers this!
We also added overnight boarding, specifically designed for existing clients, making it the perfect place for your pet when the need arises. Your dog is already familiar with the staff and facility so they come without anxiety and enjoy their time away from home.
MEET OUR TEAM.
Our head groomer, and co-owner, Martin took early retirement from a Fortune 100 company as VP in Sales and Customer Service. He and Roman started The Red Hydrant as a business with a foundation of passion, strong business acumen, and their love of animals. Martin is a graduate of the Academy of Animal Arts in Florida. Not only does he possess the technical knowledge, but he studied under an AKC Best In Show Judge and breeder to help perfect his artistic flair.
Prior to opening the Red Hydrant Pet Spa and Boutique in 2005, he worked in a top salon in St. Petersburg as well as an AAHA accredited veterinarian grooming shop in Port Richey. He has been a member in good standing with the National Dog Groomer’s Association of America since 2005. He has also studied anatomy, AKC Breed Standards, breeding, and AKC Show Grooming with well-known breeders and AKC Best of Show judges. In 2018 he was awarded the title of Certified Master Stylist from Intellectual Grooming Association, where he also holds a Life Membership.
He currently spends time coaching, mentoring, developing, and perfecting the skills of the Red Hydrant groom team. Martin believes strongly in the importance of continuing education and regularly attends workshops and classes to ensure he is maintaining excellence in grooming as well as providing updated and state of the art care for all of the spa clients.
Martin spends his limited amount of free time, being outside. He competes regularly in a variety of running distances from 5K to marathon. He also competes in triathlons again ranging in distances from Sprint to Ironman – which is 140.6 miles. In addition to his running, he also has a love of food and both he and Roman love to travel. Maybelline, their AKC Champion French Bulldog travels with them at times and is a regular at some of their favorite outdoor restaurants and even their favorite running store.
Before opening The Red Hydrant, Roman spent 15 years in the retail industry. He began his career buying and creating displays for a small chain of retail stores in Saint Paul Minnesota. From there, he moved into the wholesale side of the retail industry doing visual display and merchandising for a National Sales Rep Company based in Dallas TX. Here, he became the Regional Sales Rep in the upper Midwest. Although he enjoyed what he was doing, he decided to take a break from the wholesale world and started an imprinted sportswear company developing custom designs for department stores, museums, and mail order catalogs around the country. After a successful run, he sold the company and decided to return to the wholesale world. Upon his return, he wanted to do things differently then other rep groups and started his own sales rep company in Minneapolis MN. The company quickly took off and grew dramatically welcome clients such as Target, major department stores, mail order catalogs and museums. He eventually added a product development division which successfully worked with US manufacturers to make custom products for The Walker Art Center, The Frank Gehry Museum, The Children’s Museum, MOCA and Target. As the company grew and expanded, Roman made the decision to sell the company to his business partner and made the move to a warmer climate. This move prompted him to take all of his business experience and apply it at a Fortune 100 Company.
After a successful career, he took an early retirement and moved to Sunny Florida where he and Martin decided to open The Red Hydrant. Roman wanted to add a twist to the traditional world of dog products and grooming and did his research to find what could offer their clients a new experience. He still continues to travel and research new products and companies that specialize in making new and better products for dogs. As the Buyer, Roman looks for quality products made in the USA at an affordable price.
In recent years, clients continually asked for more gift products to purchase for all their dog loving friends and family members. Therefore, The Red Hydrant re-merchandised the entire store and added a gift department that continues to grow and change each season. In addition to the Red Hydrant Boutique, Roman is continuing his education in caring for dogs by attending conventions, trade shows and workshops to learn about new and better ways to provide care for The Red Hydrant Clients – the four-legged and two-legged alike!
Michelle joined the Red Hydrant in 2013 as a bather but she quickly began to show her leadership and organizational skills and it was not long before she was promoted to department manager. It was there that she began training newer team members.
Michelle has continued to develop as an integral part of the Red Hydrant family. Her years of day care center management and experience working with an animal rescue helped give her the solid foundation needed to rise to Manager of Red Hydrant. Her desire to care for both the animals as well as their owners make her a huge contributing team member.
She is a proud mother of four wonderful children and wife to her longtime husband.
Adriana is our much-loved Play Coach. She has such a quiet and calming way with all of the day care patrons. Simply put…the dogs LOVE her! She can be seen throwing balls and toys, giving lots of hugs, teaching the dogs to sit before going outside, afternoon naps and story time. She makes every dog feel special when at daycare. They love her so much that when they enter the store, they quickly drag their owner to the daycare door….they are eager to play!
She and her boyfriend relocated from Connecticut in 2017.
Amanda joined the Red Hydrant groom team in 2018 when she relocated from New York. During her career up north she worked in a large facility and worked for over six years as a stylist. It is easy for our clients to see and experience her love and desire to care for the animals.
Amanda is a mom to two fur-babies – Mickey, a Lab beagle mix and Willow, a German Shorthaired Pointer.
